Energy Efficiency

Installing an energy-efficient door in your home not only saves you money but also makes your home more comfortable by reducing drafts in the winter and reducing heat gain in the summer.

Mikronwood Solid Core Construction

Frames made of vinyl, wood or fiberglass can’t complete with the K-Value thermal energy performance of our advanced composite MikronWood™, used on our sliding patio door. Additionally, our MikronWood™ is a solid core frame with better strength and durability characteristics over hollow vinyl and wood and is more recyclable than and has better screw retention over fiberglass. Only MikronWood™ offers all the features for a long-lasting frame and features the option for a real-wood stainable interior.

Green Smart Energy Efficiency

MikronWood™ is a revolutionary new material that provides the beauty of wood with the weather-able, no-maintenance advantages of a composite. The material is a blend of specialty polymer resins or “Thermoplastic Alloy”, designed for excellent durability and strength. This unique blend of resins can’t absorb moisture so it provides a very stable, rot and insect-proof material.

To provide consistent processing without organic variation, the material does not contain any wood fiber content. The material delivers dimensional stability and strength that is designed to perform well in  high-heat, high humidity southern climates as well as for cold northern climates. This exceptional performance even in harsh climates helps keep the cool in during the summer, and the warm in the winter, making the SecuraSeal™ door among the best energy efficient sliding glass doors and lowering your utility costs.

Compared to wood doors, composite doors resist rot and are proven to last longer in moisture and mildew prone climates. Composite doors have a long lifespan and a strong overall “life cycle” value.

A longer product lifespan limits post-consumer waste as these MikronWood™ sliding doors can last for decades.

MikronWood™’s no-rot solid core offers better thermal performance than wood, fiberglass, and hollow PVC. In fact, MikronWood™’s “K-Value,” a measure of thermal conductivity, is lower than any frame material used today.

Data provided by the National Fenestration Rating Council and independent labs shows lower K-values (better)  than pine wood, hollow PVC and fiberglass. Specifically, MikronWood™ has a K-Value that is 24% lower than Pine, 37% lower than hollow PVC and 54% lower than fiberglass. As a more energy-efficient material, with a long lasting, durable life cycle, MikronWood™ truly is a “green” material.

Because there is no wood material content, MikronWood™ composite doors avoid the depletion of wood resources.

Process generated composite material is recyclable. In fact, virtually all of the scrap generated in the MikronWood™ composite extrusion process is used in future polymer-based products.

Our products are tested for and, in many cases, exceed the requirements for ENERGY STAR certification.  Thermal performance depends on configuration of the door and selection of glass type.  Please check with us on a specific configuration if ENERGY STAR is important to you.
